Tumblr, I present you with a challenge.
bethechangeyouwant: My school district does not allow candy in the classroom. Not to be given out any day including Halloween. We also are not allowed to show movies as rewards. Now I know I could reward my students with pencils, stickers, erasers, free time, extra recess, etc.,but I was thinking of opening this up for creative suggestions. So here, I ask you, if you were in my position...

tomesaway asked: If you were the editor of any other tag on tumblr, what'd it be and why?
tomesaway asked: We already know you like The Princess Bride. What are your other go-to comfort movies?
tomesaway asked: How'd you and your mom enjoy Brave?
Taking my mom to see Brave.
fortuneandglory said: I think you just wrote my new resume. My dad was a local politician for the majority of my life (city council). Sometimes I used to write speeches for him. I don’t know if he used them, I just did it for fun mostly. I do know he did use some of the ideas. In high school, I wrote a city ordinance that was finally passed when I was in college. It was the first of...

If you could have a fictional character as a...
Dobby. He’s loyal. He can keep your non-work-related secrets. He loves deeply. He is resourceful. He would protect my students at all costs. I bawled my eyes out when I read the book and when I saw the movie and he died. I think I cried harder about him than I did with Sirius Black and Prof. Dombledore. He has an innocence that I just love.
pablophonic asked: If you were forced to live with a character from Friends who would you least like it to be and why?

Something else Jbizzle329 won't agree with
Watching the Olympics has made me realized something: The world needs more hugs. So many hugs at the Olympics. Sad hugs, happy hugs, friendship hugs, congrats hugs. The world would be a better place with more hugs.

paeacefuleyes: “Can you tell me more about your social skills class you taught? The defendants, led by Sam Mullet Sr., stood up one by one before U.S. District Court Judge Dan Aaron Polster and said they understand the risks of trial, including lengthy prison terms if convicted. Community (not the tv show) Pt. 1
In Tomesawayfromhome’s post about her “Dream Posts” she suggested that I write about community building (along with lhuddles, thinkbrit, heymissat). I’m not sure whether she meant building community building on Tumblr, with colleagues at your school, or within your classroom. So, I’ll begin with community building on Tumblr since it is the easiest for me to talk...

allisonunsupervised: More than thirty years ago, Stephen Krashen hypothesized that language is acquired when learners receive input that is just above their own level. If the gap between what a student can produce and what she hears or reads is too great, more language won’t be acquired. That’s an easily accepted…

Thanks for the great ELL posts, Allison. I don’t teach secondary, but the posts have still given me something to chew on.
paeacefuleyes: There has been some buzz in the #education community about “dream posts” and who could post about them. It started me thinking on the many things that I have accomplished in my short time as a teacher and what knowledge I could contribute to the group. I am also curious to see who else out there has had similar experiences and can chat/share stories with me, especially as I learn...

prettywordsandpictures: Definitely did not miss this part of university. So now I have to recover almost $800 by December so I can pay for my next course. Suggestion to all of those in undergrad / grad school. Find out if it is OK to use an earlier edition of a text book. The amount you have to change to make a new edition is very small. Most professors will say yes, and may even be working...

In class, they’ll share them, and explain why the writing is...
