Peer Review/Feedback Process?
diaryofafyt:
Does anyone have a good peer review/feedback process? This needs to work for seniors and be relatively straightforward. Obviously I’ll have to teach the skills and better This class is VERY big numbers wise and I’m afraid I won’t be able to give each student the attention they’ll all need, hence the need for the peer review process.
Would love any suggestions!

teachingtoday:
I know a lot of you do the “eat and work” thing, as I usually do. Try to force yourself to take the time to sit and enjoy your lunch. With or without co-workers. Just take the time to regroup, replenish, etc… Remember, there is no reward for being or looking the busiest. You will be more productive when you are slightly rested and refreshed. It’s amazing what 15-30 minutes of...

13 Ways to Help Your Child's Teacher. →
toseealambatschool:
Helping in your child’s classroom isn’t limited to chaperoning field trips or bringing in birthday treats. From September through June, teachers welcome parent helpers for more than an extra pair of hands. “When parents volunteer,” says Trina Francis, 6th grade teacher in Hampton, VA, “it builds that family and home connection.”
As a new school year starts, here are 13 ways...

Update: Sal did not get his transplant
Sal was released from the hospital this morning because the organs did not meet the required standards. Hopefully the next call will be the one. Until then, we still have a lot of funds to raise. Thanks so much for all the reblogs and prayers. Please continue to pray or if you don’t pray think good thoughts that the right organs will come soon.
Also, please sign up to be an organ donor...

Girls in STEM

msnickelodeon made a post today about the underrepresentation of girls in STEM, and I was reminded that someone had mentioned they’d like me to write a little about this. This is lengthy, so click through to read the whole thing.

Thank you tumblr teachers!
tantalizingtidbits:
Last week, I had a major moment of questioning whether I was in the right profession. I can’t guarantee that I will never feel like that again (I have a feeling it will be a frequent thing), but the support the tumblr teaching community gave me was inexpressibly helpful. It is nice not to hear “oh, you’ll be fine,” but rather “I’ve been there too. It sucks, but you know what?...

kiwifruitoid replied to your post: Dear New Teachers,
Any favorites you care to share? I’ve been trying to look for easy freeze recipes since school starts back for me next week (and as a 1st year I KNOW I won’t be eating well if I have nothing prepared ahead of time)
The following are recipes I’ve tried, like, and freeze well.
Skinny Taste Chicken Nuggets - So good, taste just as good...

Dear New Teachers,
I highly suggest, if you haven’t already started work yet, to use the week before work starts (or at least the week before kids) to cook some yummy/healthy meals you can freeze in individual servings. I know many first year teachers (and second and third and so on) who don’t eat well some nights due to staying at work late or other school functions. I like to make a bunch of meals...
Union chief: Teachers should prepare for strike -... →
misseducation:
I really wonder what the likelihood of a strike is in Chicago. After working in a charter school last year I can tell why teachers are mad and scared. I wish I were a part of the traditional public school system sometimes to gauge what’s going on there. We’ll see…
Let's write a Tumblr cookbook.
Proceeds go to wishlists.

I couldn’t be more jealous of your kielbasa. I love that! Do you eat any other polish food?
I love pierogies, but I do not make my own. I either buy them from the West Side Market in Cleveland when I am in Ohio — or get the frozen ones from the grocery store when I am in Florida. I also frequent the University Inn...

You're my treasure.
coolcatteacher:
I started school today. I told the students, “I’m more like a miner of gold than a teacher. There is gold inside you and I want to find it. It won’t look like gold when we dig it out, but if we work together to recognize the value of your talents and polish them together, you’ll come out shining. That is my purpose.”
I didn’t plan it. It came out. I don’t know from where but it...
