Positively Persistent Teach

I am a teacher. I moved to Florida to teach 2nd grade and was recently moved to Pre-K. At my last school, I taught in the resource room for grades K-8 in both reading and math (and many times other content areas as well) in a public school district. I have also taught K-2 special education in a charter school. I student taught in England, have had field placements in Montessori schools, and worked with a private Christian school.

The most important things I have learned about teaching are:
1. Don't ever give up on a kid, or yourself.
2. The attitude you have, regardless of the situation, is your choice. Choosing a negative one does not improve anything, it only makes you and others around you miserable.

Also, be sure to check out the education section on tumblr! Education Tag I'm thrilled to be one of the editors!

We have had three deaths in the extended family since the New Year.

This week, my uncle fell and knocked himself out.  At the ER they determined he is at risk for paralysis because of a bone spur on his spine.  He is have surgery on his spine tomorrow.  He does not have health insurance.  He is my uncle through marriage, but is the kind of guy that has always gone above and beyond for our side of the family.  I’ve always been able to count on him when I needed help.  He is one of those selfless people I aspire to be like.I wish I was there to help out.  I’m sending gift cards for take out food for after surgery, but I really just wish I could be there.

Prayers/good vibes for tomorrow would be very much appreciated.
