Let me rephrase: Is anyone doing anything fun IN SCHOOL for Columbus Day?
We don’t have off either, and I’m looking for teaching ideas.
I boycott Columbus day in school. If I taught older grades, I’d teach the facts — not just the “story.”
Last year, I took some bookbags off the coat hooks when the kids were in lunch. I then said, “Look what I can take home.”
The students were naturally upset because the bookbags belonged to them.
I told them that it was alright because “I discovered these bookbags.” We discussed how you can’t really discover something when people already live there.
