Best News Resources for Students?

teachingtoday:

I am always looking for age and reading level- appropriate texts for my students. A serious problem I find in my classroom is that students know very little about current events and real-world problems. However, many news stories contain language above my 7th graders’ abilities (keeping in mind that most of them are NOT reading at grade level). Please reply with sources you find useful for teaching elementary-middle students about current events. Media is great, but written texts would be ideal.

waitinglines answered: try finding YouTube videos or clips from newscasts online - that way you can show them a clip and let them do the discussing!

acuster answered: Have you tried Tween Tribune? I teach high school, but another teacher uses it for remedial reading. It might work for 7th grade.

let-me-chase-happiness answered: Well, I’m a senior in high school but in my history class, we watch CNN Student News. Its only about 10 min everyday. Maybe a good start?
