Last night I shot off an email to the IT Director and the Principal about YouTube for Teachers. Many of my colleagues have been asking for access to YouTube but the answer has always been “No” from the IT Director. His excuse is always about the inappropriate content that students could be exposed…

Youtube is not blocked in our district, but there is a screener that blocks some videos due to content description.  I’m not sure how this is accomplished, but I am very happy to be able to use youtube.  As far as I know, it costs our district $0.

State Farm’s “New York” commercial, featuring school children aged 8 to 11 from throughout New York City. State Farm partnered with director Spike Lee to produce 60- and 90-second versions of the commercial. The commercials are running in tandem with the 10th anniversary of the September 11, 2001 terrorist attack. [State Farm/YouTube]

This is how you take September 11 and build an ad around it, Herman Cain. Look forward, not back.

One of the cats must be chopping onions or something…

There are suddenly lots of onions in my place…

This is so beautiful :)

Ha. I just found out that the kids singing are from a Kipp school in New York and one of the guys I graduated college with is their teacher.

I like to play this video sometimes when I wake my kids up from nap time.   So fun.

Some are even free.

I just wish there was a way to use youtube safely in school.
